Coco Peat

Description

Coco peat, also known as coir pith or coco pith, is a natural byproduct of the coconut industry, derived from the husks of coconuts. It’s an eco-friendly, sustainable growing medium that is highly absorbent and retains moisture efficiently.

Low EC Coco Peat Uses:

  • Used by potting mix producers who create and sell soil blends for plant growth
  • Used by Nursery and garden centre operators for growing and maintaining plants.
  • Seedling nurseries (especially for sensitive plants).
  • Lawn and golf course construction (to improve soil aeration and moisture retention).
  • Horticulture and floriculture applications (for growing plants in controlled environments).
  • Home gardening and landscaping (for soil amendment and moisture retention)

High EC Coco Peat Uses:

  • Coir Peat Blocks are used as a soil conditioner, surface mulch, rooting medium, and desiccant. Composted coir pith is an excellent organic manure for indoor plants and horticultural crops.
  • It can be mixed with sand, compost, and fertilizer to create high-quality potting soil. Coco peat typically has a pH range of 5.5 to 6.5, making it slightly acidic for some plants, but many popular plants can tolerate this pH range.
  • Coco peat is also used as a substrate for growing mushrooms, which thrive on cellulose due to its high cellulose and lignin content.
  • As a good absorbent, dry coco peat can be utilized as an oil absorbent on slippery floors. Additionally, coco peat is used as bedding in animal farms and pet houses to absorb animal waste, keeping the farm clean and dry.

Benefits:

  • Highly absorbent and retains moisture efficiently.
  • Eco-friendly and sustainable, decomposes naturally.
  • Free from harmful substances, benefiting the soil after use.
  • Versatile and user-friendly, even for first-time users with limited knowledge.
  • Dust-free and free from additives, ensuring a clean and sterile environment.
